Professional Scientific Staff

Dr Graham Smith - President, BVMS, MRCVS, MSc, DACVP (Clinical Pathology)

Graham founded CanBioPharma Consulting Inc (CBP) in 1998 and brings a wealth of industry experience to assist clients with support and provision of perspective regarding nonclinical drug development, expert opinions, due diligence reviews, clinical and anatomic pathology evaluations, bone marrow evaluations and educational workshops. Graham is a board-certified diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Pathology (ACVP) in clinical pathology. Prior to CBP, Graham worked in the pharmaceutical industry for 17 years. His industrial career in nonclinical drug safety evaluation included senior management positions and participation in many cross-functional development teams.

Dr Judith (Judy) Taylor - Vice-President, AHT, DVM, DVSc, DACVP (Clinical Pathology)

Judy joined CBP in 2004 as a principal. Judy brings her extensive technical and scientific knowledge in clinical pathology of domestic and laboratory animal species to provide expert bone marrow and clinical pathology evaluations and interpretations of nonclinical toxicology study samples and data. Judy is an ACVP board-certified diplomate in clinical pathology. As well as being a successful veterinary practitioner, Judy was a renowned university teacher of clinical pathology at the Ontario Veterinary College for 6 years as well as veterinary medical director of diagnostic laboratories.

Dr Stephen (Steve) Groom - Vice-President, BSc, DVM, MSc, PhD, DACVP (Anatomic Pathology)

Steve joined CBP in 2004 as a principal. He brings extensive experience in anatomic pathology, with expertise in application of specialized stains and immunocytochemistry, to evaluate and interpret gross and histopathology data in nonclinical investigative and regulated safety studies. Steve is an ACVP board-certified diplomate in anatomic pathology. Steve has toxicological pathology experience from the pharmaceutical industry and as a consultant. Steve has evaluated and interpreted gross and histopathology findings in studies of varying types and durations (short term to chronic) for a broad range of therapeutic agents administered by various routes (oral, inhalation, dermal, parenteral injection) using conventional and transgenic laboratory species.

Dr Robin Walker - Consultant, BSc, MSc, PhD, DABT (General Toxicology)

Robin joined CBP in 2004 as a consultant toxicologist. He is an expert in nonclinical drug development and has successfully guided multiple new therapeutic agents through safety evaluation to development milestones including regulatory filings and marketing approval. Robin has a depth of scientific knowledge in nonclinical pharmacology, safety pharmacology, and pharmacokinetics to complement his expertise in toxicology. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology (ABT) and has over 25 years' experience in the pharmaceutical industry working for multinational companies and subsequently for CBP.

Dr Lena King - Consultant, BSc, MSc, PhD, DABT (General Toxicology)

Lena joined CBP in 2008 as a consultant toxicologist who also has an extensive blend of experience both within private industry and as a reviewer of submissions while employed by regulatory agencies in Europe and Canada. In addition to expertise in all aspects of toxicology (general, reproductive, genetic toxicology and carcinogenicity studies), Lena has experience in nonclinical pharmacology, safety pharmacology, and pharmacokinetics as related to drug development. She is an ABT diplomate and has over 20 years of diverse pharmaceutical industry experience as a study director, laboratory operations, and in multidisciplinary international development teams.

CanBioPharma Consulting also works together with affiliated expert consultants, in particular Dr. Ron Tyler and Dr. Bob Sigler, as required to best serve client project needs.

Dr Ronald Tyler - Consultant, BS, DVM, PhD, DACVP (Clinical Pathology), DACVP (Anatomic Pathology), DABT (General Toxicology)

Ron joined CBP in 2009 as a consultant pathologist and toxicologist. Ron brings over 30 years' expertise in clinical pathology; anatomic pathology; and predictive, discovery, investigative and regulatory toxicology based on his extensive experience in academia and industry. He is a dually board-certified diplomate of the ACVP (clinical pathology and anatomic pathology) as well as an ABT diplomate. Prior to joining CBP, Ron held senior scientific management positions with major pharma and also consulted extensively in the USA, Europe and China. Ron has served on numerous editorial boards and scientific institutional committees.

Dr Robert (Bob) Sigler - Consultant, DVM, PhD, DACVP (Anatomic Pathology)

Bob joined CBP in 2009 as a consultant boar-certified pathologist and toxicologist. He has over 22 years' experience as a study director, multidisciplinary discovery and development team member, and study pathologist for large and small pharma as an employee and as a consultant. He has evaluated a broad range of small and large molecules in diverse therapeutic areas in investigative and regulated studies as well as experience with medical devices, nanoparticles and vaccine development. Bob has extensive experience in training technical staff in pathology laboratory procedures.
